You don't have to sound strong when you pray

My sister made a post this past week that stayed with me. It read: sometimes we come to God still trying to hold ourselves together.

And ain't that the truth?

The post centered around 1 Samuel, when Hannah was carrying a pain so deep that she wept bitterly before the Lord. Her prayer was not polished. She was not trying to sound spiritual or put together. She was hurting, and she poured her heart out to God.

I think many of us have learned how to be strong for everybody else.

We get up. We go to work. We answer the calls. We handle what needs to be handled. We tell people, “I’m okay,” even when our hearts are tired.

Then when it is time to pray, we can feel like we need the right words, the right attitude, or enough faith to make the pain disappear.

But prayer is not a performance.

God is not asking you to clean up your emotions before you come to Him. He already knows what hurts. He knows the part of the story you cannot make sense of. He knows the prayer you have been trying not to cry about.

Maybe your prayer is, “God, I do not understand why this happened.”

Maybe you are still believing, but you are also tired. Maybe you are grateful, but grieving.

Maybe you know God is able, but your heart is struggling to catch up.

Bring all of that to Him.

Bring the frustration. Bring the disappointment. Bring the questions. Bring the fear. Bring the part of you that is trying to stay strong while quietly falling apart.

Hannah did not have to pretend with God, and neither do you. He can handle your honest prayer. He can meet you in the tears, the silence, and the moments when you don't know what to say.

You do not have to be okay to come into His presence.

You just have to come.

1 Samuel 2:1 -Then Hannah prayed and said, ‘My heart rejoices in the Lord.

Let's Pray.....

Father, thank You that I do not have to pretend with You.

Help me bring You the things I have been carrying quietly.

Meet me in my weariness, hold me in my grief, and give me strength for today.

AMEN

God can handle the honest version of your prayer.
