Sometimes You Have to Pray Through It

Welcome to Pray Through It Blog Series.
I recently built Pray Through It, a prayer partner app and gentle space for anyone carrying the loss of a loved one, a broken relationship, job loss, or another heartbreak. After walking through my own grief, I learned that some seasons leave us with more questions than words, but we can still bring every part of it before God for hope, Scripture, and prayer.
There have been seasons in my life when I didn’t have the right words to pray.
I believed in God. I read His word. I attended church regularly. But I was also hurting, confused, tired, and asking questions I didn’t have answers to.
Our 26 year old son suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and our lives changed immediately. What followed were years of caregiving, believing, praying, hoping, and eventually grieving a loss I never imagined I would have to live through.
And somewhere in all of that, my relationship with God changed too. I learned that prayer didn’t always have to sound pretty. Sometimes my prayer was simply,
“Lord, help me.”

Sometimes I cried.
Sometimes I questioned God.
Sometimes I didn’t know what to say at all.
But I kept talking to Him.
And that is what Pray Through It means to me. Not pretending the pain isn’t there. Not rushing to get to the other side. Not covering our real emotions with words that sound more spiritual. It means bringing all of it to God.
The grief, disappointment, fear, questions, and even the silence.
I created this space because I know what it feels like to need God while also trying to understand what He has allowed. And I know what happened when I kept seeking Him.
My grief did not push me away from God. Over time, it actually drew me into a more intimate relationship with Him. I began to know Him differently. I started to trust Him differently. And I even began to recognize His presence in places I missed before.
That doesn’t mean I stopped missing my son, Corion. It means I learned that grief and faith can exist in the same heart. So if this series found you while carrying something heavy, I am here to tell you that you don't have to carry it alone.
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” — Psalm 34:18
Each week I will meat you in your inbox with prayer, scripture and resources. We are going to pray through the pain, the disappointment, the fear, the questions, and the days when getting through the day feels like enough. Not perfectly. Just honestly.
And we are going to keep reminding ourselves that even here, God is still real.
Let's Pray.....
God, someone I love has died, and today feels heavier than I know how to carry. I am leaning into You, but I do not have the words or strength to hold myself together.
Your Word says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” My heart does feel like it is failing, so please be my strength—not for tomorrow, not for the weeks ahead, but for this day. Help me breathe through the next moment and take the next small step. Let me grieve without pretending, and hold me when sorrow, anger, confusion, or numbness comes. Amen.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:26
This verse gives you permission to feel depleted while trusting God to supply the strength you do not have today.
